Wholesale warehouses like Costco seem to stock them this time of year. Wal-Mart, Target, or Kmart may have them, or you can try looking on Craigslist.org to see if anyone in your area wants to sell one. Classified ads might also give you some leads. You can also join a freecycle community on Yahoo! Groups for your area, and see if anyone is giving one away. eBay is also a decent place to look, although you should be careful about who you do business with.

Shop the yard sales, thrift stores, pawn shops, & used music stores. Since it is the first one for you, I assume, you won't know much about what works for you till you do trial & error first. This is a good way to get better bang for the buck, also.

The things you see at discount stores can not really be called guitars...

Go to a local music store and talk with them about your needs and desires.
