Ball python. 10 mice a month is feeding it too much. I will bet it is at least 8 inches around and cannot support itself enough to move too much. Mine eats about 2-3 med rats a month. She is about 5 feet long and very happy and ACTIVE. 1 rat about 3-4 inches long w/o tail every other week is what she always eats. With the exception of a respiratory disorder she has a clean bill of health and her vet loves her because she is so friendly and NEVER bites. I would recommend the ball python because they are more docile than a corn snake. I have rarely seen a friendly cornsnake reluctant to bite. I work in an animal hospital and have had several jobs working in an exotic pets pet shop. Also have had reptiles of all sorts ranging from common garter snakes to dart frogs for almost 30 years now. I currently have a ball python, savanna monitor, nile monitor, veiled chameleon, leopard gecko, speckled gecko, Honduran milk snake, sinoloan milk snake, and a jackson's chameleon. Oh, and 2 cats. Oh and Andy, you might want to research what type of snake you have. Balls max out at 5 feet. If you have one 10 feet long, chances are you have a subadult Burmese python which have very similar markings. If you do have a 10 foot ball python I would suggest calling Guiness book of records, because that length for a ball is unheard of anywhere in the world.

A full grown ball python will eat 5 to 10 mice a month. A cornsnake will eat just about the same. Ball python tend to be a bit picky on their food, some wont eat dead mice. Cornsnakes usually take them no problem. They get about the same length but the ball python is thicker (if i can use the expression). For the rest, cornsnakes are more active when you handle them, ball python will just wrap around your arm and stay there. A cornsnake is less expensive than a python. What else to say.. Both make very good pets!!

are you a beginner? if you are i would recommend the corn snake as they are the easiest snake to care for but ball pythons are quite easy too. baby corn snakes eat 1 pinky every 4 days but when they are adults they have1 fully grown mouse every 1-2 weeks. i think a ball python will eat fully grown mice when it is about 4-5 foot long and when it starts to get bigger then i think you can start feeding them rats.

Many pythons will eat anything but ball pythons are notorious for prey imprinting on one type of prey and refusing all others. Most people keep them on mice.
I fed my adult ball pythons one huge retired breeder mouse each week and they did fine on it. If I was short on retired breeders I fed them a couple of smaller mice.
The biggest ball python I've ever seen was just under six feet long and a giant for that species. Most of mine were about 4 1/2 feet long full grown.

ok ive work at new england reptile for about 6 years and the average ball python would be about 4' giants are around five but ive seen them take down the smallest of pinkies and the biggest of rats which tend to be around 1 1/2bl nothing bigger the girth of the snake should be the limit of wat you feed it if you want it to saty heathy and live a long life 25years. sure ive seen a ball python eat a frozen thawed guinea pig but thats not a reasonable size for the biggest of ball pythons!

Large mice or small to medium rats. A good rule of thumb is the snake can eat something up to twice the width of the largest part of it's head. Just be smart and feed frozen/thawed mice, a live mouse can injure or even kill a snake that size.

ball pythons dont get 10 feet long, 4 -5 is about average and adult ball python can eat a large rat. you should switch the ball from mice to rats as soon as you can a hatchling ball can eat a baby rat.

Corn snakes on the other hand will only get about 4-5ft and a adult mouse would most likley e the prime fgood for it. mines still a baby andi feedher pinks.
