Dante is the author. Inferno is the first book in his work collectively known as 'The Divine Comedy'.

This link below should give you a full text view of the entire works. They're very old, so they are in the public domain.

It is technically a series of three epic poems written in the 14th century. The first of the three is called Inferno (hell, in Italian), the other two being Purgatorio and Paradiso (purgatory and paradise). All three together are called The Divine Comedy. I can tell you right now that the video game (which looks interesting nevertheless) is not really reminiscent of the actual work. However, Inferno itself is still a fantastic read, so I don't mean to discourage you. The poem chronicles Dante's travels as he descends into hell. Virgil, the famous roman poet, is Dante's guide through each of the nine circles of hell: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice, Wrath/Sullenness, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Betrayal. The whole thing is pretty BA.

I believe its the Divine Comedy by Dante Aligiheri. The Inferno is one part of the Divine Comedy. Type Divine Comedy or Dante's Inferno into your search engine and all sorts of things come up.

Dante is the author of the inferno which is his visionary idea of the various levels of Hell and why people wind up there! The book is well written as classic italian prose ane can even be found in Dover classics which you may be able to pick up second hand.

Try asking your local librarian. Dante also has some other books like Purgatorio, which is a part of a series called The Divine Comedy.
