Why are people answering this question in a religious context when the question was placed in a science category!!!!! First of all, we did not evolve from apes, we shared a common ancestor. Second of all, evolution is not about survival of the fittest, that term refers to social Darwinism. I'm not going to go into detail cause some of what I would say would be a repeat of what others have said. The bottom line is everybody is entitled to their beliefs. Therefore, yahoo answers is not going to give you the best answer to your question. My suggestion is to read everyones answers and do a little research yourself and come to your own conclusion.

To quote Moby, "We are made from stars". You'd better refine your question. The theologically human are made some how by a "God", whether it's the Christian God, or the hierarchical head of a pantheon like the Roman/Greeks. From evolution you have a selection from a bunch of primordial protein ooze, a walking fish, a monkey that got tired from hanging around in trees. Anthropologically humans are just the lastest generation of a species, with a bigger brain pan. Genetically we are all related to a few tribes located in Africa and the Middle East.Chemically, and technically we are made from atomic particles, kinda like a star.

HE DID NOT COME but existed here. While world population increases (now 725 Crores) the earths surface would be filled with human beings without cultivation, animals, trees or birds and he would start eating one another because of hungry. Then where does he go?. That is the place where he came from.

I am a very strong Christian---and scientist and therefore had to resolve this evolution question for my own self long ago. It is a fact that evolution did and does still occur. No question about it. I strongly believe that Christ did too as well as God and all of that.
Nowhere in the Bible does it even come close to saying that there was no evolution. It does not matter a whit. It does say however that all (ALL) things are of God and at the behest of God. To me, this included evolution. I firmly believe that evolution of humans did occur and at God's directing. As did all of the other stuff like dinosaurs and etc. The Bible does not mention the automobile either but they exist just as it says nothing about dinosaurs, but we have solid proof that they did exist. Just because it does not spell out every little thing in the Bible does not mean that they do not exist. To be sure, evolution of humans did occur as well as the evolution of every other living thing and it was all at the behest and under the control completely of God. Like all serious science and medical students who run into classes dealing with the concepts of evolution, ie, Comparative Vertebrae Anatomy, we have to evaluate and resolve within ourselves this seemingly antagonistic idealogy. I did and I was able to remain true to the two disciplines- science and religion.

Humans evolved from a common ancestor millions of years ago. According to scientific evidence (ie. the fossil record and artifacts), much of human evolution occurred in Africa. Early human fossils and archaeological remains were discovered by scientists in regions of East Africa. Early humans (hominids) inhabited Africa for a long time. They gave rise to other species, who eventually migrated to Asia and Europe.

they didn't come from anywhere in particular. Rather, the humans, as you call them, developed as a species here on this panet. As for the various theories that are out and about, they are still mostly a hypothesis (or other) not challenged strong enough by other evidence.

I'm proud to say that the first human skeleto was found in Africa!!! As for how they came to be, well if you're religious you could say GOD and if you're a scientist, you would say, Ape form. But whatever the answer be as an African I'm proud to say we walked upright first!

humans are primates, a group that includes chimpanzees, gorillas, Orangutans and several others.
humans evolved from a chimpanzee like primate over the last six million years in Africa.
the first human feature in that long chain of evolution, from a tree dwelling primate, was the ability to walk upright, bipedalism.
so we are basically African primates.

Geographically, from Africa.
In terms of phylogeny, our ancient ancestors were ape-like creatures that adapted to different environments. Some became Orangutans, some became Chimpanzees, some became Gorillas, but the smart ones who learned how to talk became humans.
In terms of ontogeny, from inside our mothers.
Oh yeah, one other thing: no one thinks humans evolved from modern monkeys. I am so tired of ignorant people thinking that has anything to do with evolution, when it doesn't. Humans and monkeys share a common ancestor but we didn't come from monkeys any more than they came from us.

Well it depends on what you are basing it off of. For example, if you mean by religion than it is whatever your religion is; Christianity and several other religions say God. If you mean Biologically, researchers suggest that we didn't evolve from apes, we evolved with them. We are said to have evolved from Homo Erectus. The first or "Archaic" forms of Homo Sapiens began to appear in Africa about 400,000 years ago and somewhat later in Eurasia.
