I'd have to say St. Nicholas, since he inspired the legend.

Saint Nicholas, there were these children down at a local orpan edge and he decided to, every year at Christmas time, give the orphan edge one more thing they needed, that started the spirit of giving, that is why the also call Santa Claus "Old Saint Nick"
