Ditto on pulling out that hard drive and installing it temporarily in another desktop system. They can burn a DVD with your personal data. 99.999% of the time, the pop didn't kill your hard drive.

I'm also thinking that the pop might not have totaled out your system. Most of the time the keyboard takes the brunt of the abuse. I'd be interested as a tech to see what is wrong w/ that system.

You can pull the hard drive, which most likely has survived this incident, from you dead laptop. Here is how to get it to work on any other PC of your choice.

Remove the hard disk....depending on your type of laptop, this could just easily slide out or you may need to removed a panel or two from the underside of the machine....refer to your manual on this or refer this to a tech saavy person.

You can buy a USB drive enclosure for your laptop drive. Your best bet is to visit a local CompUSA store and bring your drive to make sure you get the correct type.

A USB drive enclosure will transform you laptop drive into a portable hard drive which you can use just about anywhere.

You can see what is available here.

Again, if you are not very technically saavy, have a tech saavy person assist you.

If you are technically inclined and have another computer you can buy an adapter to put the laptop harddrive into it so you can copy the pics to the other computer. If you aren't up to it you can have most any computer shop do it. We do that type of thing a few times a month for various reasons.

Make sure its a reputable shop, otherwise you could lose all your data.
