Just wondering
a) what hedgehogs teeth are like- are they more like cats or more like rabbits?

b) would a large cage (such as a ferret cage with many levels) be better for them than a flat cage?

a) Hedgehogs teeth are not really like cats or rabbits. Rabbits are lagamorphic meaning they have teeth like a rodent but they have to rows one behind the other in the front two teeth, and cats are in the order Carnivora and have teeth that are used for tearing flesh and eating in that manner. Hedgehogs are insectivores and have sharp conical teeth used for grabbing insects and holding them. However they can still give a nasty bite but are not as destructive as rabbits.

b) Hedgehogs are good climbers and a ferret cage could be nice enrichment for them. However be sure that the shelves they climb on are not wire bars because if they trip they could get their feet caught and break their legs so a mesh or flat surface should be put down. I recommend a solid enclosure however to be sure they do not get injured climbing the side of the cage.

Hedgehog teeth are more like a cat's. Hedgehogs are known to climb, but any cage would probably do. The one I got for my boyfriend back in high school was kept in a large aquarium. My cousin kept his in a large wooden box. They mostly stayed burrowed away in a corner.

Just wait til they crawl up the leg of your jeans while you're sitting. It's quite an experience!

The teeth are short and stubby.
A ferret cage is not a good idea, no wire cage is a good idea, you would be better offwith a flat cage, unless you can find a cage with multi levels that has slick walls.

It seems like an okay size for a hedgehog, but you might want to get a bigger one.
