~In the early 40's quite a few of them went into dental gold reclamation, soap manufacturing and lamp shades. Their engineers were designing neat stuff like the first superhighways, the first jets, the first rockets, disinfectants like Xykon B and camps and retreats. Through the 2nd and 4th decades, most of the boys was off killing most of Europe, at least until Sammy-Come-Lately joined the fray when the outcome had been decided (not once but twice), but before that places like Krupp Steel and Mercedes Benz were going like gangbusters and had to rent labor from the SS. Germany was really jobbed by the Treaty of Versailles. In the 50's they started building walls and they developed steroids so they could hire amateur athletes in the 60's and 70's, but only in the eastern states (yeah, right!) By the last decade, they were doing stuff like buying out cheap American companies such as Chrysler and American Motors. But the average Heinz just punched a clock at some factory much like his American cousins. And always, they made beer. You can look it up.
