Ya, i really dont know the neighbors too well... So it would be kinda akward to just stop by and ask to know what type of router they have.

Is there not some way to just find out with some sort of program?

While it's technically legal to use an open wireless in the US it is NOT legal to alter it in any way. Get your own connection! I'm NOT going to help you hack into some else's system.

BTW, I'm old. And I use the shlt out of my systems as a network engineer. I leave my wireless open as an altruistic gesture but I'll prosecute anyone who hacks into my system.

Type in the router address on the url bar. The prompt with the username and password should give you a hint of what the router is. But you do know that ITS ILLEGAL to try and change someone's settings? And well...its kinda dumb to say here that you dont know the neighboors and that it is their connection.

Think before you type...

Find out what kind of router they have and then look it up at the router's company website.

I think you already know this one.
I won't tell you how to crack your neighbors router.
Sounds like a good time for a BBQ and some electronical negotiations.
(ask them to open up your required port)
