A necessary option. When abortion was illegal, many desperate women got unsanitary, coat hanger type abortions and died of infections or lost their ability to have children as a result.

Very few people are in favor of terminations per se. Most people would like to see the number of terminations reduced. The issue though is - if a woman does not want to carry a child to term, should she be made to do so by the law? To that, the answer is no; we cannot impose that burden on an unwilling woman.

However, it is reasonable to require her to make her choice before the fetus becomes viable - that typically limits terminations to the first trimester. After that, there is increasing liklihood that the fetus would be viable outside the womb. At that point, we need some laws to restrict the actions of the woman.

Abortion is a natural right of humans, to take away that right is to leave a woman defenseless in society. Abortion is a natural way for a woman to defend herself against rape, and accidental pregnancy.
Some zealots feel that abortion is wrong and believe that they should have the power to control abortion. This has never worked in history. Women abort because it is natural to remove something harmful from your body when you are being harmed by that entity. When a woman is raped, she has the right to remove the man with any force necessary, and if that man leaves a part of his body in her body, she has the right to remove that part, be it sperm, a fetus or condom. For society to blame the woman for removing the fetus wrongly inserted in her body is to reward the rapist for his actions.
Like the rapist that forces himself on a woman, the pro life movement also wants to force its self on a woman. When an unwanted impregnation occurs, and a harmful fetus is left within a woman against her will, the pro life movement wants to force that woman to carry a fetus that is harming her body.
There is no difference in the intrusion of the rapist and the intrusion of the pro life movement.

I don't think anyone one "likes" abortion or thinks its "good". What they defend is a woman's right to have control over her body and destiny. Many people will say adoption adoption. What about the half a million children in foster care (2001). While I support a womans right to choose, it is not something I could do.

Neither "bad or "good in a moralistic sense, it is an ancient practice that women never want to have to do. Now it is a legal medical procedure and the unquestionable right of women to choose or not.

Abortion is a great evil. The taking of an innocent life cannot be justified under any circumstances, and therefore, is always wrong.
