The question is, I believe what could one person do, not what would you like to see, so I will answer: I'd like to start a farm setting or some other self sufficient place so homeless or working poor would have a decent place to live. It could be for life or untl they get on their feet.

Step up efforts to impeach certain politicians who don't perform locally OR internationally.

Start a new motto to help resolve the Iraq problem "Each Iraqi soldier trained is an American going home!" I'm no soldier but I find it difficult to argue with this idea.

Severe punishments and fines for corporate executives and the companies they work for for any known destruction to the environment that is clearly unethical or endangers other people.

Ban trans fats

Educate, educate, educate!!! Increase the amount of money not only into the education system but into teacher training programs. Hiring more teachers and not providing them with the adequate resources or experience doesn't solve anything. Also, get more engineers and scientists into the classrooms (or create planning groups to create science programs and curriculums) to make more functional and interesting activities for kids to do that are hands on. Teachers rarely have good qualifications in these areas.

Pay off credit card bills and cut the cards up.

Use contraceptives, exercise, don't smoke, marry ONCE and make a firm decision to keep divorce out of your vocabulary, don't steal movies and music by downloading them since it's killing the industry, save for retirement responsibly, read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", read newspapers and books so you can be an EDUCATED voter and not just some sap voting in a popularity contest (be sure to read about both sides of every issue), seek the truth, don't do, sell or buy drugs (unless you're a pharmaceutical company), write to your politicians and follow up until you get a REAL answer, write to you TV networks or newspapers to let them know what questions you want to know or to ask why they aren't asking the questions you have (AFTER actively seeking the answer yourself), do volunteer work, don't like minimum wage? Go back to school and learn a new trade ( minimum wage goes up and then so do prices which means you need another increase in the minimum wage creating an endless cycle that kills off small businesses in the process and why should McDonald's cashiers get as much as secretaries?), and on and on and on and on.

Basically, you can make a difference in America by making the right personal choices. So many people are making bad decisions that it drags the whole system down.

Take a look at the staggering progress in the quality of life of Americans over the last 100 years. What we need to do is allow that to continue. Don't be in such a hurry for everything to be perfect--that will never happen. Reading all of these answers, they generally demonstrate the fallacious expectation that the government can do something to make life better for the average American. Universal health care is a mirage--enact it and the descent already underway will accelerate until it is not only the small minority of Americans who now do not receive adequate medical care, it will be almost everybody except the rich. Once the government gets involved, people lose freedom, costs skyrocket, efficiency and quality take a nose-dive. Canadians wait months for procedures Americans receive in days. Sweden has begun to turn more to private practitioners because the state ones are so costly and inefficient. No, the problem is not too little government but too much. Eliminate Medicare. Health care will get better and cost increases will slow way down. Why do liberals donate less than conservatives? It's because they are counting on government to to the work that rightfully ought to be done by private charity. Quit telling so many people they are victims. Get government out of health care, education, retirement savings, housing, and all the other tentacles of the Leviathan that is the welfare state, and allow human beings within the rule of law and a system of free enterprise to continue to innovate and produce and make life better, just as they did for the last 100 years. Liberty. Freedom. What can I do? Obey the law, be a good citizen, be as productive and creative as I can be in my work life, and as generous and compassionate in my private life.

Level up the money distribution around the country that even the homeless could have at least a decent meal.

I'll teach the Mayors of America to use the housing methods and facilities of the Union Soviet Socialist Russia but not of their graft and corruption ways.

Create a Company that lived and die for the labor oriented cause which could support a million of jobs but still prosper in honest and legal ways.

If all will fail, go to Military Academy and join in for the cause that you'll have to die something than to die on with nothing at all.

Actively prosecute any and all companies that ship jobs overseas and provide tax breaks (some) for companies that relocate to impoverished areas such as Appalachia.

Getting tough on willfull air pollution (factories) would be a great start.

I could start by really wanting to. Then I need to why the conditions are what they are, then I may know what to do. I think it has something to do with knowing the difference between an extendable right to property and an extended right to property.

The richest country on earth is poor!
It's the law of karma...
You are sowing poverty all around the world,
And you are reaping poverty in your country!
So,those who can do it,should do the opposite!
Sow happiness around the world,
And reap happiness!
Educate youself spiritually,
As universities are not doing the job!
Just teaching how to rip off the world
And accumulate wealth,that will dissappear..
Learn wisdom,learn true spirituality!
Not just Bible....learn Gita..
Learn Vedas,learn Truth..
And Truth will solve everything!
