Disqualification for a spacific period of time, which probably will include the next olympics.

It depends on what sport the infraction occured in and if there are any mitigating circumstances like tainted medication or supplements etc. The usual standard punishment is being stripped of any medals and records the athlete recieved and a two year ban from international competition in the sport.

A second offense results in a lifetime ban if there are no mitigating circumstances.

These punishments are not specific to the Olympics but all international competitions including World Championships and World Cup events. They are handed down by the individual sport's national and international governing bodies.

If they are caught at the Games at testing after their event they will lose the medal and any record they established ( hence Ben Johnson 1988)
