completely smashed and put back together. It has been 18 surgeries SO FAR and I am "almost" back to normal. I have always been active and am VERY self conscious about the scarring and questions (I still am having nightmares about the occurence).

Do I tell someone up front (I don't want to talk about it) or do I say (are they horrible?)...........I need to get out more......but I am VERY concerned about someone making a comment. Any thoughts?

what others think of you is none of your business . be yourself as this scar is a part of you now. think of the ''Grace'' that you survived in the first place and stop being so self centered like i was about my own scar and mine is on my face !!

I am happy to hear that your leg is better. As for the scarring you could just politely say you were in an accident and you're not comfortable talking about it. It's nobody's business anyway.
I have a massage patient who had 3rd degree burns on over 1/3 of her body - and they are now totally flat and are only a slightly darker colour than the rest of her skin. Regular massage (geared specifically on your scarring) can really help scars to break down and become less noticeable. I also had a client who had a been a cutter in her youth. She was having a procedure done on her scars where they basically sand them down and treat them topically with something to make them less noticeable. SO, if you really are emotionally unable to cope with having these scars then there are options available. Maybe you could think of them as a symbol of your strength and resilience because that's what they are, especially after 18 surgeries! Congrats on making it thru.

I'm glad that you are better. Please go to a webpage called Surgery without Scars. Also go to Yahoo search and look up Keloids.

There are some good over the counter products that reduce the appearance of Keloids and there is some information about the therapy for the Keloids on line. Scarring can damage your self image as a reminder of what happened for years.

Three of the over the counter medications are:
Scar Therapy
Mederma
Scar Zone
These topical medications may take a while, but they do work, even for those who have had their ears pierced and have scars forming.
To the people asking about it, tell them they are proof that yo are a warrior and won!

I am a bit confused about your question. I think you did not read it over before submitting or I am not reading it properly. Anyways, I think I know what you are asking. Go out and do as much as you want. Most people wont notice and those who do wont care or may not bother saying anything. If you don't want to talk about it, just say, " its painful to talk about so I prefer to keep off the subject, but thanks for your concern. " That's it, people will understand. Good luck.

Wear pants. Think about your luck in surviving and being able to walk.
