i dont remember the exact definition but....

a MONomial is one or more variable(s) or number(s) linked by multiplication: 2, or x or 2x, or 2x^2 three examples

a BInomial is two MONomials linked by addition or subtraction
2-x or x^2 - 2x. two examples

trinomial is three X^2 - x + 2 is one example

a polynomial is 2 or more MONomials. so a binomial and trinomial are polynomials

A binomial is an expression having two terms ("bi" meaning two and "nomial" being numbers or terms). A trinomial expression has three terms. A polynomial expression is any expression that contains more than one term.

Note: a term is something like 2x or a constant. So, 2x+4 would be a binomial.

In Algebra, an unknown quantity is generally represented by x
Any expression involving powers of x are categorized into polynomial, binomial or trinomial.

An expression having x^2, x and a constant term is a binomial, it has maximum of 2nd power of x
An expression having x^3 and lower terms is a trinomial, it has maximum of 3rd power of x
An expression having x^4 or more is called polynomial. It has minimum of 4th power of x.

Maximum power of x determines whether the term is binomial, trinomial or polynomial. Lower terms may be present or absent in the expression.

Polynomials include binomials (two terms) and trinomials (3 terms). Example: 2x + 3 is a binomial. x-squared + 2x + 3 is a trinomial.

Any number can be written as a polynomial in x. For example.
-7 written as a 3rd degree polynomial: 0x-cubed + 0x-squared + 0x -7.
-7 as a binomial: 0x-7

Scratch my previous.

"Bi" is Latin for 2, "Tri" is Latin for 3, and "Poly" is Latin for many.

"In elementary algebra, a binomial is a polynomial with two terms: the sum of two monomials. It is the simplest kind of polynomial except for a monomial."

Trinomial is 3 terms.

"A polynomial is an expression in which a finite number of constants and variables are combined using only addition, subtraction, multiplication, and non-negative whole number exponents (raising to a power)."

yes! we did it last week:

let me get my notes out...

polynomial would be the name of the monomials, binomials, trinomials, 4 terms, 5 terms, and so on...

binomial is two terms (6-2x^5)
trinomial is three terms (x^2-x-1)

Monomial: an expression with one term (3x, or 5, or 7xyz^2)
Binomial: an expression with two terms (6x + 8y)
Trinomial: an expression with three terms (3x^2 + 5y + 8)
Polynomial: an expression with two or more terms

Poly=many; many terms=more than 1 bi & trinomials are examples of polynomials. They can have more terms.
bi=2; 2 terms ex ax+b
tri=3; 3 terms ex ax^2+bx+c
