I'm guessing you're worrying about shaken baby syndrome. There's a difference between twirling and shaking. You'd have to shake an infant pretty hard to cause damage, so twirling them like he does a few times isn't going to hurt them at all.

I agree with the others. If she's giggling, she's not being hurt or handled too roughly. If she's under 6 or 7 months, she shouldn't be being tossed into the air at all, head control and neck injuries coudl result. But it doesn't sound like your husband is being rough with her. Try to relax. But DO state your fears to your husband. If he respects your concerns he'll find another way to play with her. My husband used to have anxiety attacks when I'd let our newborn swing in the baby swing. He thought it was going too fast and would hurt his brain to be swinging back and forth like that. Of course that wasn't the case, but until our son was a little bigger, I kept the swing on the lowest setting and tried not to use it whenever my husband was around. Now, when he WASN'T around and I needed to put the baby down for 10 minutes so I could pee and fold the laundry, I used the swing, don't tell my husband though ;)

The gas you're referring to is CS (2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile). Actually, it's a misnomer -- CS gas is solid at room temperature. What they'll do is set a tablet on a heated pad, and gas will begin to circulate throughout the room. This is after you have the gas mask on, of course. CS gas is classified as non-lethal. Lethality would be determined by two main factors: whether gas masks were in use, and whether the occupants were trapped in the room for prolonged exposure. When CS is metabolized, cyanide can be detected in human tissue. If you have a history of asthma or other pulmonary conditions/disorders, let someone know immediately. Having gone through boot camp, I can tell you that the effects of CS gas can range from mild tearing of the eyes to immediate vomiting and prostration. You will not be exposed to it long enough to cause any long term ill effects, but if needed, there will be medical personnel standing by -- this is a precaution. Hundreds of recruits pass through the gas chamber every day, and only a fraction experience severe health problems. (If this is incorrect, someone please correct me.) If you do snott or vomit, it's not allowed to hit the deck. You either catch it with your hand and wipe it on you shirt if it gets full, or just puke down the inside of your shirt. If you dirty the deck you don't leave until it's cleaned up. Not fun.

It's okay to the extent of 2-3 times, but no more. Baby's brains are very much like mush and the slightest strong whisp can damage the brain. Express your concern to your husband and remind him that although he says he is being careful and is not doing it hard, as a grown man the slightest wisp can be like taking a bat to her brain. Baby's love it, sure, but it is still not safe! There are other ways to entertain a baby.

Twinkle,
I read the other replies to your query and agree with them all. However, none of them mentioned or commented on your reaction to your husbands acts. If it really scares you and you feel you have a valid cause for concern, then by all means discuss it with him and help him find another way to amuse your daughter.
On the other hand, if many many things freak you out, then it might not be your husband at 'fault' here but rather your own psychotic fears, then you should get yourself checked out. These things only worsten with time...

It's fine as long as she can hold her head up by herself. If she's enjoying it, it's fine!
