how can i get mp3s from my linux or my windows xp onto my mac notebook?

you have several options,
get an external hardrive and do a file back up( which you should do anyway) then transfer the files to other computer
burn all the music to dvd then rip onto other pc

Transfer them using either the internet or some removable media.
Choices include: an FTP server on one computer and an FTP client on another. Use a flash drive. A removable hard disk. Burn music to CDs or DVDs. Etc.

Just network the two and create new file for your music in laptop, transfer the files to there. "PEACE" Excuse Me, just copy the files to laptop
