I've recently read that the Netherlands are on their way to legalize Euthanasia for the severely Depressed and Lonely (ex. men and women who cant get girlfriends/boyfriends, involuntary celibates, permanent virgins, senescent folks). The requirement will be proof of the intolerability of the patients life and that the patient has no chance of bettering by way of psychological examination.

This is great news and hope for people like myself who, as a 23 year old American male virgin at an intolerable 5'5", would like nothing more than to go to my local Dr., and obtain a prescription for a drug that will finally put me to a peaceful death.

I know that there are a lot of critics of Euthanasia - I've heard it all. But, a person's life belongs only to that particular person - he/she should have the right to relinquish it.

Euthanasia of this kind will be available to the American public in the future. What are your thoughts? Should people be forced to suffer through life?

Jon B. makes wonderful points. You're 23 years old. Quit whining about how horrible life is and do something to change it. Get out, meet new people, volunteer to help those less fortunate. There are so many things you could be doing with your life. Just because you haven't gotten laid yet and you're a little on the short side, you're ready to end your life? There are people out there who are dying from cancer, who only wish they could have a second chance and could live longer. Life is precious thing, you don't think so because you're selfish. I lost a friend to suicide two weeks ago. You may think of it as an easy way out, but your friends, family, and anyone else whose life you have touched will be the ones left to deal with the pain. Don't be stupid. Life is short enough as it is.

I vote for the availability of euthanasia.
You said, 'But, a person's life belongs only to that particular person - he/she should have the right to relinquish it.' I agree.
And what happened to good old fashioned suicide? Well, sometimes attempt don't result in the oh so desired death. And generally, aren't suicide attempts at least inadvertantly to avoid pain? There aren't many ways to end one's life painlessly. The chemicals that would assist in this are controlled. Take potassium cyanide for example. Maybe there are others I am unaware of? Please, inform me...
Psychiatry and psychology are such a big industry in America that I doubt euthanasia becomes legal. But I also haven't done much reading on the subject. And there are always those darn advocates of life. Don't they ever realize that they might just not get it? Have they ever wanted to die?
And I say all this as a person who has tried it all - 'recovery' and life termination.

I think Euthanasia is a disgusting excuse for a lack of caring and the general laziness and apathy of society.

Euthanasia is a great way to get rid of people that are a burden or are percieved as no longer contributing positively to society. That is why it is so strongly backed by insurance companies, especially medical insurance companies, The motivation is purely economic. The elderly, ill, handicapped and feeble minded can be exterminated so that they are no longer a burden on society. Able bodied people can then continue to produce goods and services, produce wealth for a select few, and promote a flawless society and economy.

Hmmm... Hitler and the sheep that followed his ideology sought to create the perfect race in Germany at one point. Those that were feeble, ill, handicapped, of a different political persuasion or religion, were exterminated to enable this master race to arise. What he could have done if he could just get all these sick and costly people to kill themselves!!! He wouldn't be blamed or bothered with all the nasty publicity and the stain he leaves on the history of humanity, or lack of it.

I've known 5'3" males with terrible complexions and not terribly handsome features that were some of the most intelligent, kindest, funniest and pleasant people to be around. And they always had girlfriends. So, sorry, I'm not going to say Euthanasia is a solution for those that don't appreciate their appearance.

Now, as far as a person's life belonging to him... yes and no.You decide what you do with your life, but when you're life is all about you, it is lonely and vacant. Doing for and receiving from other people is what helps us become happy fulfilled human beings.
Saying your life is your own is dependent on what you're definition of ownership is. If you put all the emphasis of the meaning of your life on if you are or are not a virgin, people can detect that, and they are often turned off by it. If you put value and importance on other facets of being a human being, you can and will find your soulmate. I guarantee you that there are a great many people who would be hurt and fell a tremendous loss if you or anyone ceased living.

Whatever your beliefs, you were given your life, you did not chose it or create it, but it's up to you what you make of it. Sadness, loneliness and depression are generally transient conditions. You will find your way if you look for it. Nietzsche is not the only philosopher you should read. Your viewpoint is becoming myopic and you need to broaden your horizons and study something besides your current repertoire. You could start by studying history, specifically about great men of short stature.

Listen, it's apparent that you don't really want to do us all a favor and kill yourself. You keep whining about euthanasia and when it will be legalized and if a clinic will be close to you. The answer is simple. Go get a gun and blow your brains out. Fast, reasonably inexpensive and absolutely a sure fire cure for what ails you. Now some may think I'm being cruel. Not really. Because you don't want to die, really. You're just playing everybody on here for sympathy or attention. You're hung up about the fact you're short but I've read three of your posts and in each, you keep changing your stature (5'4) (5'5) (5'6). I've seen each one. What's your real story? Other than being an a**hole, of course. Please do everyone a favor and keep your cynical, miserable life to yourself.

I am from the Netherlands and euthanasia is only legal when there is intolerable suffering with no hope of recovery (and then you still need a GP and a second doctor who is willing to help you which is quite difficult to arrange).

For feeling lonely or depressed because you have no girlfriend it is impossible to get euthanasia. No doctor in the Netherlands will help you and risk being send to jail.

I believe a person should be able to do to their bodies whatever they wish to, as long as it is not physically harmful to others. However, many of the people who would do this are the very poor minded and selfish people.

They have not yet found the ability to control their thoughts. They are foolish for thinking they would be better off dead. Quit whining and find a way to help humanity. I guarantee there are people who love you and care for you. If you are positive there is no one, go outside on the streets- I guarantee you won't be alone anymore.

Make some use out of you life instead of spreading awful thoughts and feelings of suicide, death, etc. Help others live a better life, and I guarantee you'll live a better life.

I do feel those in extreme physical pain, cancers, disease, elder age, have the right reason to take their life when they feel they can't bear the pain anymore.

For someone that is terminally ill and going to die a slow painfull death, then yes if that is what they want, why not, it is the humane thing to do.
But to want to die because you feel sorry for yourself because you are short, well the doctor you should see should be the one that you lie on the couch and talk to . What's the matter with you? There are others that have greater physical problems, if thats what you want to call it, than being short and live long , fullfilling lives , get some help and some self esteem

I euthanize professionally on animals and that is just the craziest thing I've ever heard of...what happened to good old fashioned suicide?
and your problem isn't your height or your virginity, you just need to be a victim so you can justify your screwed up mental picture of yourself...

Regardless of ones personal opinion, ethically a professional is required by law to encourage a person to seek assistance from their local community mental health clinic, hospital emergency room, or crisis line.

You are very young. Take up martial arts, and it is almost guaranteed that women will then find you to be mysterious and attractive. It worked for me. It can work for you too.

what do you mean great news????

This is the result of your euthanasia --

Your family will see you forever as a quitter - someone that couldn't handle the tough times so he checked out instead of fixing what was wrong.

A child you would've had will never be....

A graduation where your child gets his/her diploma will never be....

A wedding where you give your daughter away will never be....

A grandchild is never born....

Instead there is only a photo or some other media of you.

Your daughter thanks you.... Your son thanks you....
