Please help. I have just returned from the doctor who has performed a pregnancy test and got a negative result, as well as Std tests with negative results. I am late 3 days for my period. I have had minor fever for the past week with no explanation. The pain is very minor for the past 2 weeks too. As of today, the pain is more in the lower back. Now, as I insert a finger (bare with me please) I feel something round not too high up against the back wall (maybe it was there before?). If I were pregnant, would it be too early to feel the growth inside (AND for the doctor not to notice as she did the internal exam) ? I am very very worried. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Wow, thank you so much everyone... yes, the doctor said the tests for STDs are only 80% accurate :( They were all negative... but I have never ever felt that round thing there. ever. why might your cervix reposition itself? Does that happen before you get your period? If I'm not pregnant, if I don't have an STD.. what could be the problem. By the way, the doctor just keeps telling me to destress but how can I if I feel something is wrong?

The pregnancy test they did is a urinary one, but they say it's supposed to detect pregnancy 10 days after conception.. (i am having trouble believing it though)

It sounds to me that what you are feeling is your cervix. When you first become pregnant it actually moves higher and closes, but when you are not pregnant and at different times in your cycle it is lower and easier for you to feel. You are most likely not pregnant...the drs would have noticed it internally before you would just by checking in there yourself. There are a number of reasons why you might be late...being physically sick or stressed out in any way can impact your cycle. Try not to worry, I'm sure you are fine and I doubt very much that you are pregnant.

The "round thing" you felt was your cervix, which is the lower third of your uterus. If you were actually pregnant, you would not be able to feel the baby or any growth from touching your cervix, although if you were checking your cervix routinely throughout your cycle, you would be able to notice some subtle differences. And if your doctor was checking for signs of pregnancy with an internal exam, they would definitely notice.
As far as the pregnancy test goes, there is such a thing as a false negative. If it was a blood test, it is most likely correct though. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your position on possibly being pregnant at this time), 3 days late is not an exorbitant amount of time to be late, especially taking into consideration that you may be coming down with something (the back pain, the fever) that could cause your cycle to go off track a bit. I would give it a few more days, and see what, if any, other symptoms occur. If you are still concerned, see another doctor for another test or to check for any other problems.
Good Luck.

What kind of pregnancy test did they do? If they only did an urine test then it could be false. But if they did a blood test it most likely is correct. I would go back to the doctor or to the ER if the pain persists. It could be an ectopic pregnancy that is causing the pain. They don't always show up on a urine test because the egg doesn't implant properly and the HCG doesn't accumulate normally. If left untreated it can cause infertility or even death. I hope that this isn't the case for you. I don't know if I had a fever, but I did have lower back pain before I found out I was pregnant too. So maybe you are and it just hasn't showen up yet? Good luck

I think you should go to the doctor and take a blood test or wait about a week or two and take another hpt. What you felt was probably yor cervix. Here is more information on that
Examining Cervical Position
When conducting a self-exam, begin by washing your hands thoroughly and check your nails, they should be short and lacking in jagged edges. Examine your cervical position at the same time every day, starting the day after your period is over. Squat down, bending your knees and gently insert one or two fingers into your vagina. You should be able to feel your cervix. During the examination, observe the following:
Is the cervical position easy to reach?
Does the cervix feel soft or firm?
Does the entrance of the cervix feel open or closed?
Is the cervix dry, moist or very wet?
Prior to ovulation
During the first half of your menstrual cycle, the cervix is normally low (easy to reach) and feels firm, like the tip of your nose. It feels dry and the opening to the uterus remains closed.
During and around ovulation
The cervix now rises up to the top of the vagina, is opening up and is very wet with cervical mucus. All of this is happening in order to create a more fertile environment for the sperm. The cervix feels and softer and is very sensitive to the touch as well. At the height of ovulation, the cervix may be difficult to reach, when it has risen so high that the fingers cannot touch it.
Following ovulation
Within a few days after ovulation, the entrance begins to close and the cervix returns to a firmer state. The cervical position will be lower and easier to reach.

Okay - if the pregnancy test was negative then relax, you are NOT pregnant. You are running a fever and experiencing pain in your lower back. First - fever and illness is a classic cause for throwing your cycle off track and causing late periods. Second - fever and pain in your lower back are classic signs of urinary tract infections. Are you peeing frequently and does it hurt when you do so? If not, could be a kidney infection. Your Dr. should have checked for that while you were there. If your Dr. didn't check for a UTI, call him/her back and ask if that is the case. Usually a simple course of antibiotics will clear that right up for you.
The round think you're feelign when you insert your finger in your vagina, up near the back wall... could it be your cervix?? That's round, and located right where you're describing.
Even if you were pregnant, you would never, at any point in the pregnancy, be able to feel the baby growing by inserting your finger in yoru vagina. Babies grow inside your uterus and you cannot put your finger there.

If you are three days late, and you got a neg... then you are probably not pregnant. And unless the Dr. was a complete quack, then they would have found something wrong with an internal exam... also I think it is common to swell down there around your period.

minor fever, don't worry about that!! Lower back pain could be caused by a urinal tract infection but it would've been detected through your urine sample at the Dr., um, don't be feeling in there for stuff cause you'll get paranoid, for real. Just relax and you'll see that it might just be stress related:) Hope all is well, feel better:)

My dear..... you could be just stressing out, which in the long run could cause your period be get messed up. If you wait a few days you may get it. As for your doctor, if you are having issues your doc should have explained all the possibilities to you. Don't worry, and relax!

chances are with you being sick and all, your period is just changing course. If you had an exam, I dont think you would be able to feel the baby and the Dr. didnt. wait a week and test again to be sure. could be a bladder infection /UTI
