Okay so the whole story of the animals was made up by Pi. And only 4 people on the ship survived. So he never went on the island that was carnivorous or something like that. the only true story was what really happened towards the end where Pi tells them what happens and then he kills the cook and arrives in Mexico? What person was the tiger though? And where is he at when the Japanese guys come to talk to him? Please help me answer thank you so much for any help you have.

I loved this book - what a great read! The tiger is Pi's second nature, his ferocious nature that allowed him to kill those that threatened him, and do all the things that he can't quite accept he did. He's in hospital when the Japanese come to see him. Actually, the book offers two ways to see this story, either with or without the animals and it lets you believe what you wish about which story is "real".
