Is this a simulation game? What's your climate? What kind of indoor facilities do you have?

For example, you could plant lettuce in the late summer, and keep it in a sunny window in a cold room to "hold" it so you could harvest it all winter. But, to make this a "lettuce crop" you'd need a pretty big window! Probably a whole greenhouse.

Winter wheat you plant in the fall, but you don't harvest it until the next fall (well, early August). It also needs a lot of spraying, or at least that's what I'm given to understand.

It just depends so much on climate. You can do a lot more "succession" cropping (plant something, harvest it, plant something else in the same place and harvest it, etc. all before winter comes) in a warmer climate.

go to the local library and check out some books on gardening.

you might look in the phone book for a "university extension" they are usually located in the court house in every county. they will have free stuff about gardening in your area.

call up the local high school and ask if they have a VO-AG (vocational agriculture) program. if they do, ask to talk to the horticulture instructor. she (sometimes he) will gladly help you out. most FFA green houses sell bedding plant in the spring, and its good to support the local community by buying FFA plants.

hope this helps,

You need to know what zone you're in. I'm in zone 8 and can grow pretty much all year.
