do you want the solution in terms of x or y? I'll do it both ways, but please be more specific next time.
-x+y=2
add x to both sides
y=x+2

x+y=4
subtract x from both sides
y=4-x

-x+y=2
subtract y from both sides
-x=2-y
multiply both sides by -1
x=y-2

x+y=4
subtract y from both sides
x=4-y

EDIT: Are these equations equivalent? are you solving for a certain value? Your question is so vague >.<

The first guy already answered the question using the addition method, so there's really no point in answering again, so I gonna just use the substitution method.

-x+y=2
x+y=4

y=2+x

x+(2+x)=4
2x+2=4
2x=2 (1)+y=4

x=1 y=3

-x+x+y+y=2+4
2y=6
y=3

-x+y=2
-x+3=2
-x=-1
x=1
