2x+4(x+2)=-4
2x+4x+8=-4
6x+8=-4
-8 -8
6x=-12 divide by 6 on both sides and your answer is: x=-2

solve for y: 2(-2)+4y=-4
-4+4y=-4
+4 +4
4y=0
4y/4=0/4
y=0

2x + 4y = -4
y = x + 2

1.) Solve for either variable, I'll be solving for x by substituting "x+2" in for "y" in the first equation
•2x + 4(x+2) = -4

2.) Distribute the 4
•2x + 4x + 8 = -4

3.) Combine like terms
•6x = -12

4.) Solve for "x"
•6x/6 = -12/6
•x = -2

5.) Substitute -2 back in for "x" in either original equation to solve for "y." I'm using y = x + 2
• y = -2 + 2
• y = 0

So we have x = -2 and y = 0

You can solve this system by substitution. Since y=x+2 in the second equation, substitute tihs into the first equation and you get 2x + 4(x+2) = -4
Distribute and simplify and you get 2x + 4x+ 8 = -4
combine like terms 6x + 8 = -4
subtract 8 from both sides 6x = -12
divide by 6 x = -2
Since y = x + 2, y = -2 + 2 = 0
Note: when solving for a variable, as you solved for x here, you first simplify, then carry out inverse operations, addition and subtraction first, then multiplication and division. This is the reverse of the order of the operations, PEMDAS, used in simplifying.

4y=-2x+4
y=-2x+4/4
you common 2
y=-2(x-2)/4
so
y=2-x/2

that is not the full expression. you know that an enclosed area of parenthesis must have both parenthesis in them.
