I have an audition tomorrow for this year's high school musical, The Pajama Game. I've learned my songs already, but i just can't seem to get from A to G natural without "swooping" or screatching. Anyone know how to stop the screatching?

It's singing.

And i think the reason why is because i caught a cold from my bio teacher, but i'm not sure if that's my reason. I've hit the note many many times before without problems.

well of course it would help if your not sick, but in the mean time, make sure you warm up good before you start. then think of coming down to the note rathar than going up. have you ever done the excercise where you do a yawning feeling, and then start at the highest possible note youve got and then just slide down? it doesnt have to sound good or anything but thats the best way to warm up. so do that excercise, and think of that same feeling when your reaching that note. it also helps to raise your eyebrows, because when you scrunch them, it makes your voice go lower, so when you raise them, it helps. another way to help is to take your hand and slowly move it foward keeping it strong. this helps your brain invision a strong, solid note. and lastly, think of singing right below your sternum so it is stronger rathar than from the throat. but dont think of all these things at once while your singing, because then youll be too busy thinking of them to get the note good! lol. so do one at a time, and see which one works best. good luck - your gonna do well :-)

I know what you mean. Be gentle on your voice. It's hard. Don't stress it out to much, but try doing some slide exercises. That always works for me. Take vitamin c and drink water. I couldn't go as high when I was sick. The best thing to do is to really not try it at all, but considering you have an audition, try to slide up to it and see if you can improve it to become seamless enough for performance. Good luck!

breathe. practice breathing exercises like blowing a piece of paper to the wall and keeping it there for 10-20 seconds with your breath. vocalize with an in tune piano. condition your voice.

Your voice won't go that high. Accept it before you damage your vocal cords.

I dont know what instrument you're talking about, but if it's violin, try putting more rossin or moving the bow faster.

~I assume you have a voice audition, and not an instrumental one. If that is the case and you are male, try squeezing you left testical at the appropriate time. If female, put a clothespin on your right nipple and pinch it when you need the note. LOL
