In psychology, self-esteem or self-worth includes a person's subjective appraisal of himself or herself as intrinsically positive or negative to some degree. (notated below)

Self-esteem involves both self-relevant beliefs (e.g., "I am competent/incompetent", "I am liked/disliked") and associated self-relevant emotions (e.g., triumph/despair, pride/shame). It also finds expression in behavior (e.g., assertiveness/timorousness, confidence/caution). In addition, self-esteem can be construed as an enduring personality characteristic (trait self-esteem) or as a temporary psychological condition (state self-esteem). Finally, self-esteem can be specific to a particular dimension (e.g., "I believe I am a good writer, and feel proud of that in particular") or global in extent (e.g., "I believe I am a good person, and feel proud of myself in general").

I threw in a link for philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre for your reading pleasure. He has this thing about ego that is to die for.

I presume that there is no clear definition of a term "self" and , yes , term "respect" is short of definitions too. I would guess that "respect" is a form of love which would be applied to self, whatever it is for you.

Self respect (says its own meaning) is achieved by taking care of business, personal business and financial obligations. It is a subtle combination of innate inner reverence and earned authority. It is evident from the respect others, collegues and loved ones show you.

Self respect is treating yourself nice. That is, you don't tell yourself your not good enough, noboby loves you, you ain't gonna make it or anything like that. And most of all, you don't let other people do those very things or anything like it to you too.
