Hey, I know a lot of babies are fascinated with ceiling fans and dancing bright colours.

Most children though, will squin into a light unless it's very very dim.

I won't say that it will damage your baby's eyes as I don't have any knowledge on that, however i will urge you to take your baby to an opthamologist who can test his vision.

Sometimes a baby with vision problems will stare intently at a light because it's the only thing they can see in a world of dimness or darkness.

Don't stress just yet ok? You've picked it up early and it may be nothing at all. But you need to get his vision tested, if only to put your own mind at ease.

Good luck, I know you'll cope with anything that arises; we all do.

It is very normal for babies to be attracted by lights and spend a lot of time looking at them. Unless it is an unusual situation such as a very bright bulb right in front of his/her face, don't worry about it. Regular room lights, street light, Christmas lights, etc. are fine to look at.

I asked my pediatrician the same question because my little one likes to place our flashlight directly ON her eyes! He said as long as it's not a laser light it's fine and won't harm the baby. If it's too bright and it hurt then she wouldn't do it. But watch out for laser lights, they can burn the retinas.

It takes a while for young babies vision to be clear so lights really stand out to them as do black and white images. I don't think it'll hurt the little dear if he's not right up close to it.

dont worry my daughter does this all the time. it draws thier attention as it is bright.

unless he is constantly looking at them then it may damage his eyes.

try to keep him away from them as much as possible or buy lightshades that wont harm his eyes.

my daughter has a winnie the pooh lamp in her bedroom but is designed so that if a baby looks at it it isnt bright for them so they can still look at the pictures on it.

I hope not because mine loves lights too! Newborns can't see too far away, so lights seem to attract them since it's so different than the environment they had in the womb.

nah. he's just fascinated by them. though if you're still worried, dim the lights, and make sure he's not looking at bare bulbs. you can buy some lower watt bulbs if you want, or try to distract him with something else.
