eam in Canada too and I will be going for my first ultrasound at 8 weeks. The reason that I am going in so soon is to date the pregnancy. I had a really funky period last month so we are going to make sure that I am only 8 weeks. I am also using a midwife and I think that they are more inclined to send you for more ultrasounds. This is my first pregnancy so I would imagine that I will probably have 2 more. All of my Girlfriends that have babies had 2 ultrasounds with their first, and only 1 with subsequent pregnancies. One of my Girlfriends had 4-5, but they were watching the kidneys because they were a bit enlarged. I wouldn't worry to much if you only get one ultrasound, but If you want to you can probably request on earlier. It is beneficial for an earlier ultrasound if you are concerned about downsyndrome or any other birth defect. It is easier to terminate at 14 weeks than at 20. I hope this helps you. Good Luck.

It is very normal to have only 1 ultrasound later on. That will be the time where they will look at the anatomy, *make sure your baby is growing properly and to see if it's a boy or girl*. This is the time where they will look at the heart, it's the best earliest time to look at it too make sure that all is going well! Normally I know with every doctor's office is different but with mine they do an ultrasound around 18-20 weeks! Hope that helped. Good luck!

During a pregnancy only one ultrasound is performed, unless there are complications. The doctor usually sends you for an ultrasound between the 16th - 20th weeks. You just have to relax and wait

I had one at 8 and then 18 weeks. You can have more, including 3-D ones but you may have to pay for them as what your doctor said is correct. UNLESS there's a problem. I had what I thought was gallstones and they did another ultrasound and I talked the nurse into checking out the baby while she was looking for stones.
Not that I am recommending that...well kinda.....

Actually the policy is ZERO ultrasounds. Ultrasounds do not improve outcomes unless preformed looking for a specific condition it relation to symptoms.
I'm in Ontario and I had none. You can look up the policy on-line if you want, on http://www.sogc.org/ They've moved it and I can't find it but it should be there somewhere.

sure is normal. too many ultrasounds aren't good for the baby, so if the baby and you are both healthy, then only one ultrasound should be needed. that one, though will let your doc know if another one or more is needed later on. so, yes, only one is NECESSARY, but more may POSSIBLY, not definitely, be needed. feel good if you only need one.

Yes, very few ultrasounds are given unless pregnancy is a problem or a high risk situation. Congratulations, by the way!

Yes, mine said the same thing. I am only allowed 1 ultrasound around 20 weeks, unless they find something abnormal in that one then they may give you more.

Yes it is. Generally doctors only do 1 ultrasound on healthy patients. If you are having problems with your pregnancy they may require more to keep tabs on the baby. You could request another one but you may have to pay for it.
