It is a very good book, and not very long. A competent reader can read it in less than two hours. It is also not the sort of story that lends it self well to condensation, so no summary is really going to do it justice.

It is about a young white boy and an old black man who are marooned on an island after a shipwreck. They need each other to survive, and overcome their prejudices and preconcieved notions in the process.

This boy gets tossed off a ship for swearing. He was singing lyrics to a Lil Wayne song. Any hoo, so he's on "da cay", and this white haired black man teaches him about coconuts and fish and they just bro out and learn how to overcome racial tension. Eventually Lisa Simpson shows up and gives everyone a television, but since they have nowhere to plug it in, they make a boat so they can get an extension cord. During this process, the black mister (aka shorty tally) goes blind and ends up croaking. The boy names his boat shorty tally and ends up becoming the first boy to sail around Hawaii. He wins a trophy.
