No, your children will grow up with their names and they will learn to accept them. Your friend's should do too really. Good luck!

They won't hate YOU, but they will hate their names if they rhyme with anything negative or depict something embarrassing. For instance, I have a very old fashioned name with a not so cute nickname and kids used to make fun of me when I was in school. People can still get to me by calling me that name. I don't hate my parents for the name, I just hate the name. On the other hand, I gave my two children very plain and common Irish first names and they have both been teased by kids rhyming their names with something unpleasant. Now, if you name your son Beverly and your daughter Michael, then I'd say you're asking for it.

I think that no matter what the name is the kids might find something wrong with it.
I grew up in another country and my name isn't very international and it gave me a hard time - but the names I would have liked back then I really don't like today. It goes with being a child to compare what you have to other kids (names included) so no matter what the name is they might not like it. Just don't chose something that will for sure make other kids tease them. With time however, I'm sure they'll like their name.

If you give your child a particularly stupid name, at least give them a normal middle name which they can use to save themselves the embarrassment. It's always a good idea to consider the fact that babies turn into people, they're not a fashion accessory that you can change your mind about - how stupid are Peaches and Fifi Trixibelle going to feel with names like that at 75? Also, unfair, but true - employers tend to be biased towards more ordinary names. Save the stupid names for pets - they don't care - your children will.

although names can be changed, most people have the same name until they are 18 at least, and it is in those years where your name can reflect upon who you are. Names allow others to create stereotypes before meeting people, ie naming your daughter princess sounds cute but everyone else will automatically think she is spoiled and stuck up. when naming a child an unconventional name, you must think first of how that name will be view by other people, rather than just you thinking the name is cute.

What you got to think of, is this kid has to live with this name all his/her life, so do take Friends advice, I have 4 kids, the 3 teenage boys like their names as they are not common but sensible, my 2yr old will, in time give opinion on her name no doubt.
You have to also take into consideration if it is a childish name!
IE: may suit a cute newborn and toddler but what about when it is older?

tinkerbell-----i have a niece Hannah:))

whether or not you would have enjoyed growing up with a strange and unusual name does not mean your child will. So many children have grown up with names they absolutely hate and have been teased about throughout their lives...do you really want to put that on your children? Why make life harder for them then it already is...so what are the names?

They maybe will be mad 4 a long time, but they can get over it. Whatever you name your kid or kids (a bad name) they will be okay b/c they can't do nothing about it untill they get old enough to change there name. So like I always say,"do what you do".

Your kids will love you no matter what!!! my sister has an awfull name but it has never bothered her. but my advice is, with whatever name you pick make sure it cant be shortened to anything that sounds crap or rhymes with anything that can be offencive!!!!Also, make sure that you pick a name that can be shortened to something quirky, that sounds good!!!this will soon stick in the minds of family and friends and their real name(if they don't like it)will soon be forgotten.
