Not all belly buttons stick out. My wif has hadd 2 children and hers did not stick out in either pregnancies. But she is a big build and have a long torso (between the hips and the rib cage). I smaller women there is only one way for the baby to go and that is out below the ribcage. Therefore when iy stretches beyond its normal limits, hey presto, sticky outy belly button.

because the baby is big enough at the end to push the belly itself flat, also causing any fatty tissue to push against the belly, pushing the bellybutton out. i got jipped, though with each of my pregnancies. my bellybutton started to flatten out, but always remained an "inny" of sorts. at the end, it was a little dip instead of how it usually is, but never stuck out. my boyfriend joked that the babies weren't "done" before coming out of the oven because the "turkey timer" wasn't sticking out.

Haven't you seen those pop outs on turkeys that pop up when it's done? Same thing.

Not buying that? Ok, the baby is ready to come out and is pushing the exit button on the inside. Causes the belly button to pop out.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Not all pregnant women's do. Mine didn't. I guess it depends on how deep your belly button is.
