Ok, I have a job oppritunity to live in London, and people have often said London is expensive. Well, I was born and raised in Honolulu and just came from a three year stay at NYC (school)--and the rates in London don't seem that expensive to me:

i.e. 1BR apartment in London (disregard location right now)=

225GPB a week, so take that divide it by 2 -- it's equal to about 2USD-- and multipy it by 4 (weeks). Total is 450USD a month.
Is this right? I feel like a child writing this message... and if I am right, why are there so many people complaining about the expense in London? In NYC, your lucky to find a room under 500USD, which is shared by the way.

Cheers

900 gbp is 1800 usd per month. The exchange is 2 usd for 1 pound, not the reverse.

£225 is £900 a month, so yes it would be about 450 US$.
Do you already know what you will be paid for this job? Take that into account and also the cost of travel, food and bills etc....
The majority of people in London only earn about £800 a month (and that's above minimum wage!!!).

Hope this helps.

Out of pure interest how much would it cost you for your room (at 500 US$) plus bills and food etc.. a month? And what is the minimum wage?

OOOPS! Sorry guys, I thought he just needed the calculation checking, didn't know the rate was wrong!
And £800 a month is just a little higher than the MINIMUM wage, which yes, is what most people in London earn.
Of course, if you have a good job then you will earn much more than that. But the expenses are quite high too!

Good luck to all of you moving over here!

can anyone tell me how much rent, bills, food etc... costs per month? (for a 1bed apartment, that's basic) and what is the minimum wage?

At the moment there are around $2 to £1, so if it was £225 a week then it would be $450 a week, $1800 a month,....sorry but you have done the equation the wrong way round.

1 GBP = 2 USD. so if the room is 225GBP/week or 900GBP/month, then it's about 1,800USD/month. so i guess you have to recalculate your budget plan. my husband & i are also coming to work in london, so good luck to us all!

p.s. how much is your salary in london exactly (if u don't mind)? if it's a lot, then i guess you'll pretty much make it. and is it really true that the average london wage is 800GBP? anyways, don't forget to pray, and have fun!
