The goal of corporations in America is profit for the shareholders, without as much interest in the stakeholders (the workers, society.) This doesn't have to be the way it works. We're not the richest country per capita. Why are we so arrogant as to think we are?

Don't whine about what you've done to get by. I'm a proud Democrat, with two degrees, have worked hard all my life as well. I'm not looking to give away all I have either. Just we should concern ourselves with how difficult it is to make it for some people... disabled, the children of impoverished single moms, mentally handicapped. And for the rest, keep education and a support network accessible to them. Not everyone is an interchangable link like you and I are.

Taxes slow the economy no matter who pays them. Yet taxes are integral for certain things we have like schools and roads. Some taxation is good because it produces a positive result, like taxes on cigarettes or SUVs. No one likes paying their taxes.
Also... who says that corporations are run by Republicans? Most corporations give money to both parties.

... because they just come on here and say the latest thing Rush said and then say "why don't people know economics"... when they clearly have no idea
the idea that "what's good for the economy is good for Americans" is far from always being correct... what would be best for the economy is if every worker got paid 5 cents a day and worked 20 hours a day and lived in shanty towns... the economy would be 10 times stronger, not having to really pay workers...
but would that be good for Americans?
I'm not against working hard, but what happens when the majority of America works hard and is still living pay check to pay check?
anyone that thinks the majority of Americans that do this are lazy IS UN-AMERICAN... in my book...
I mean do the business leaders work 3,000 times harder than the employees to warrant being paid 3,000 times more?

That is a crock of sh*t. The shareholders get left holding the bag...see Enron. It's all about profit for the top executives, the shareholder thing is just another slogan that sounds good. Explain to me what one person does to justify making 100 million dollars a year while workers are left out in the cold? Name me one thing the republicans have done in the last six years that has benefited the average American more than it has benefited a rich American. One thing.

Why do Democrats think it's wrong to work hard and sacrifice to succeed in this country?
They want people to rely on the government to provide for their family.
I'm working on my degree so that when I retire from the Navy, I can get a decent job and make decent money to provide for my wife and 2 sets of twins. It seems that if I become successful (pay wise), I would have to share my wealth with those who choose not to work hard and sacrifice to get what they want.
How is redistribution of my wealth going to affect the economy positively?
Added: I'm not whining...I'm suggesting that people take personal responsibility.
Single mothers are granted temporary (emphasis on temporary) assistance while trying to make their lives better for themselves and their children. My wife did it with the first set of twins.
The mentally handicapped can work, and many do. Event he severly mentally handicapped can work. As an example, when I was stationed in Bangor, ME, we had mentally handicapped people working for a company that was contracted out to be the maintenance and upkeep of the military facilities. There were also two severly mentally handicapped people who lived below me in my apartment building, both had jobs.

Ignorant is probably a better work. Almost nobody in the U.S. really understands real economics anymore. They have all been taught Keynesian ideas about elastic currencies and central banks. The more primitive a culture, the better the people understand economics. They understand the difference between something of wealth and worthless inflatable paper or digital entries in a computer.
But it was the Democrats who brought this about. We got the Federal Reserve in 1913 under Woodrow Wilson, and our gold was stolen by FDR. Anyone who understands economics knows that inflation is stealing.

Repubs know that taxes are not paid by corporations, they are paid by citizens. taxing corp. only raises the price of the good they make or sell to cover the tax. Reducing the taxes on people who make the money means they have more money to spend or invest, which creates jobs and brings in more tax revenue.
Taking money from the people who earn it, and giving it to people who don't or won't work, or redistributing it to special interest groups doesn't work to increase tax revenue or create jobs and keep the economy moving.

shareholders and stakeholders in that context are the same thing...Corporations don't give a damn about their workers or the society, nor do they have to.

If it wasn't for US corporations those workers wouldn't have any jobs. If those workers don't like their jobs find ones that they do like. There are hundreds of thousands of immigrants dying to get jobs in the US. I wonder why that is?

Because of the great success of communist ( Democrat policies) countries around the world. Don't we all want to live four families to a house like they do in Cuba?
