I think it is only 9 characters. After that it will put the ellipses.

Yes, that's a good question. Mine has ten letters but the tenth one never shows, just dots (...) and yet some people have quite long avatars, some with more than one word, and it all shows up.

mine's 12 "letters" whenever i log in
