The desire for vengeance is often the by-product of insult executed with arrogance and ignorance-- they seem inseperable.-- directed at a different culture, belief, mentality.

There is a wealth of material available; the distinction between revenge and moral revenge [assisting the boomerang effect]. Or, a people- most often military- insults another culture and region for decades, the infestation accumulative until action, vengeance, the only seemingly logical release. The "everything costs" axiom, account- nearly- settled.

Vengeance is mostly an affair of honor, real or imagined. Perhaps the tale of the 47 Ronin will suggest an avenue for you.

Today, in Springfield, Pennsylvania, a 17 year old Junior took his father's AK-47 into the high school. Shot holes in the ceiling and then shot himself.
He took out his vengeance on getting bad grades for two marking periods by choosing not to go to that school anymore. Permanent vengeance was his choice!

WHY? WHY? WHY?

GOD bless.

Well your thesis could be on why vengeance is best served cold or in other words why do people wait before they take their vengeance out on someone - is it opportunistic or rather careful planning and deliberation
