In most cases the heat circuit fo the furnace wheather it is LP or natural works when the contact in the thermostat complelets the curcuit between the red power lead and the white wire.Other elements in this curcuit contained in the furnace beside the gas valve coil may be limit switches, pressure switches etc that are there for safety. The circuit goes to common after the gas valve. The yellow wre is comonly used to supply power to the AC condenser unit and the green is for the blower in the furnace so that you have air circulation without either the heat or air being on. These two circuits require the common lead whatever color in order to complete the circuit. As these do not have the safety components. IF RED AND COMMON wires are connected directly at the very least you will blow an internal fuse. other components could be damaged!

Read The Instructions On The New Thermostat First
LP is the same as naturel gas heating
(RED) = 24 volt power (R)

the same way as a natural gas furnace the only thing that needs to be different is the orifice in the furnace which should be done by a professional the orifice is what the gas comes through.
