When I taught English, one research topic that always went over well was, "What was happening on the day you were born?" You can choose from a number of areas such as politics, world events, sports, fashion, etc., and there's usually plenty of research material available.
It's fun to see how the world has changed in a matter of a few short years. And since the topic is one that should be of interest to you, it's usually a lot of fun to write.
Good luck with your research paper!

Yes 12/12/2006, today a boy, 17, in Springfield Pennsylvania walked into high school with an ak47 and blew holes in the ceiling and then himself.
Why does the father have an AK47 at home (and supposedly the kid got the key somehow). Are ak47's legal to have at home?
Do you really need that kind of firepower?
What are the real signs of depression? He told his girlfriend yesterday that he's going far, far away and not coming back.
She didn't know.
What are the 2006/2007 signs of teen depression? Are they angry because they were put into daycares as children, and are latch-key kids because they come home from school and no adult is there?
Why, why?
GOD bless.

Oo, this ones fun. Reasearch the difference between a poets tale of Sir Arthur and the Round table and a Knights tale of Sir Arthur and the Round table. Compare these two pieces: "The Tale of Sir Gareth" by Sir Thomas Mallory and "Gareth and Lynette" by Lord Alfred Tennyson. You can probably find both stories on the internet, and it's really easy to do. Sir mallory was a knight and Lord Tennyson was a poet. It doesn't take too long to read, but make sure you understand Tennyson or you'll misinterpret it.

Gee there are so many but you need something that corresponds to the subject that you are doing which is English so a current topic like why moviestars are always cause drunk etc - is it because they all go out and do it or is it because the media follows them around constantly so they are bound to find something. Also world news like the war in Iraq is always a popular one but i find controversial issues more interesting than others like the bermuda triangle - Happy Studying :)

Your research topic can be on why the FCC is letting television shows not have to pay for closed-captioning which would ultimately benefit the deaf and hard-of-hearing... This is very recent, so you should find a lot of information on this.

Ask yourself what you are interested in . It could be an issue you are concerned about , maybe something scientific like animals or weather or about a geographical place.
Ask your teacher about what your options are.
Research papers are very big deal in high school and you'll get a lot in college if you go.

I would research something relating to books turning into movies. Compare how the two are similar and different. Give your opinion on which one is better.
