Do you believe you can block out things from your past if they are traumatic, but be unaware you are doing this?

For e.g. I had a terrible childhood, but I cant remember it but i know it happened from what people told me. I can only remember from age 6 and up. Could i be blocking this out? Will i ever be able to remember?

It's called repressed memories. Yes. You do it unknowingly. It's a defense mechanism your mind uses to protect your emotional health. If you want to remember then you can go see a hypno-therapist, or simply get therapy. Sometimes they can help to bring the memories to surface. Sometimes they simply resurface themselves with time. Do you really want to remember them? There is a reason your mind repressed them, you probably wouldn't like what you remembered if you say your childhood was traumatic.

I heard you can hypnotized your self into beginning on a 'new slate'. Some call it self hypnosis. I too have memories as a kid that keeps recurring....I somehow reasoned into believing that what you cannot control, let it not bother you either....

Ask a professional and post what they said....
Thank you for the question...
