Multiply everything by 12 to get rid of every fraction, and you are left with: 6x - 8 + 6 = 3x + 7. Subtract the 3x over to the left side, add 8 to both sides, subtract 6 from both sides. Leaves you with 3x = 9. Therefore x = 3.

3x+x/4=7/12+4/6+1/2
13/4x=7/12+8/12+6/12
13/4x=21/12 (*4 to both sides)
13x=84/12=7
13x=7 (/13 to both sides)
x=7/13

(3x-4)/6+1/2=x/4+7/12
multiply each side by 12
2(3x-4)+6=3x+7
6x-8=3x+7
3x=15
x=5
