Yes. A Mexican territory. Americans settled it, were pushed into a revolution, won thier independence, went along as a Republic for a while, then applied for, and got, membership in the United States of America.

Aas far as i know, Texas was never considered a 'territory' in the sense that the U.S. considered places like the Indian territory (Oklahoma). During Spanish and Mexican control of Texas, it was considered to be a part of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. After Santa Anna's defeat by Sam Houston at San Jacinto, Texas became an independent nation from 1836 until 1845, when it was annexed as a state by the U.S.

~A territory of whom, the US? Mexico? Spain? France? Germany? Or the rightful original rulers, the Chiricahua, the Apache, the Atakapan, Bidai, Comanche, Karankawa, Kiowa, Tonkowa, Caddo and Wichita? Of all of the above except the US, absolutely. Of the US, obviously not. Go do your homework and you would know this most obvious fact. Texas is another place like Panama, the Phillipines, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or Florida where the great uncle in Washington wanted something and so fomented rebellion and took over either an independent or the territorial mandate of another independent nation. It's called spreading democracy today but doesn't quite work so well in places like Iraq, Afghanistan or Viet Nam.
From the bogus answers you are getting here from people that don't know what they are talking about, I hope you realize how important it is to do your own research rather than to rely on ignorant bozos who have no clue of that of which they purport to speak. Third grade is not to soon to start, but it may be too late.

Yes, Texas was once conciderd a territory seperate from the United States. In some sense, Texas is still a seperate territory. It was one of the last states to be added to this country and thats the reason why the Texas flag is the only state flag that can fly at the same staff as the American flag.
