It depends on your service or product. You have to tailor your ads to the demographic that will yield you the most traffic. You need to provide more information, I'd be happy to suggest a few methods. As a business owner, I can give you ideas that worked for me.

But as a rule...Word of mouth is the best.

If you are offering a service or product, try your local phonebook. Also try www.craigslist.com
I own a cleaning company and I have gotten more calls from my FREE advertising on this website than I have with all of my paid advertising combinded!

We're in the same boat. We know we have a service people want, but getting connected with customers is difficult to do without busting the budget.

This is the most difficult hurdle for new businesses.

well, sir, when i started my kwik e mart business i would put up signs outside my store, tell everybody i saw about it, and i also would spread rumors about possible opponents to my store.
