...most magazines are marketed to a certain demographic.
...when's the last time a white model was covergirl for Essence?
...start your own magazine and put whomever you want on the cover. It IS still a free country.

I sell magazines, these magazines do have african american girls on there sometimes and they always do not have someone blond and blue eyed on the covers. I have seen Alicia Keys,Tyra Banks on there. I think Queen Latifah is a little too old for a teen magazine so I see her on covers of other magazines. Beyonce is on every magazine in the world, so much so that I am real tired of seeing her face and wonder why magazines don't give someone else a chance at the cover once in a while. I agree with you I think Paris and Britney are way overused!

well, no one really cares about queen latifah or alicia keys. Tyra Banks isn't for modeling anymore. As for beyonce I see her all the time. There are just more famous white women then black women and the magazines target their main readers and they go through statistics and find which people will sell their magazines. I don't think racism has anything to do w/it. It's just the readers and their demand. Also, don't forget there are "black" magazines such as essence and jet if that still exists. I guess they're racist against whites, huh? I don't like racists either no matter what side of the fence they may be playing.

Yes they do. A lot. have you seen this month's 17? They really do though. I havent seen Britney on a cover for months now. I do agreet Nicole whatever and Paris (she was on the cover of 17 not to long ago) are really stupid, but they do put others on the covers too.
I guess i can see you point, they may not do it enough (i never really looked at the skin color of the person, just the person and what they did to be on the cover so i dont really know) But....

The real question is what about the average American Girl. No matter what her skin color or ethnic background. Why don't some of these magazines do a few covers and articles on the real life American Girls who are struggling every day just to make it in their environment. That environment could be the inner city or the upper middle class private school kids. They each have daily struggles to reach their hopes and dreams. Oh and not just skin color and ethnic background but what about size and what society considers the not so beautiful. That should make these girls feel beautiful and proud of who they are as individuals.

Many editors of magazines only care about one race of readers they figure they only have 2 worry about one racr and that nobody but them read it so they make the magazine with info about stick figure models and a person that is not like everyday people. The give most style advice 2 skinney girls it is not all about race its just the way some people want the world 2 be like

I get magazines all the time with african americans on the front cover...beyonce, oprah, ciara, cassie, aaliyah (her tribute), eve..the list goes on and on...but they do seem to make a big deal out of what all these rich, redicoulsly slutty party girls are doing all the time, i dont really care, but cant help but know all about it because their business is everywhere

What about Iman? Waris Dirie? Tyra Banks? Alek Wek? ESPECIALLY Alek Wek, because unlike so many other black supermodels, she is VERY dark. The link below is her on the cover of ELLE. And of course, the original, Grace Jones. I just love Grace Jones. She's wild and beautiful and just the coolest thing.
You look for blue-eyed blondes, you'll get them. Look deeper. =)

Thats a good question. That is true, you do see more blonde hair and blue eyes on the covers of the magazines....what about other races like Asian, or West Indian. I would definitely like to see more women/men of color on the cover of magazines! It seems like society doesn't embrace the idea of minorities--too much...cause you see the same thing on tv.
