the dance where the couple have an arm each pointing forwards, holding hands, then march so far, do some turn and march back again.
there' a really common piece of music that i've heard accompanying it (and always springs to mind) that goes:
da da da da dadadada-da, da da da da dadadada-da, da da da da dadadada-da, da dadada da-da-da.
(sorry but it's the only way i can express the tune)
what's it called? And who's it by etc?
i hope someone can help me with this.

the only film that springs to mind at the moment that i've seen it in is "holiday on the buses" and Blakey is trying to teach it
i've only heard a piano for the music before.
and i think the dance goes something like:
march march march march, something something, turn. etc

This really sounds like the Tango to me. See Wikipedia article below

Hiya, the piece is called Cumparsita and the dance in the tango, the foxtrot is a similar hold but foxtrot is ballroom and tango is latin. Foxtrot is much lighter on the feet - kinda across between the jive and the waltz - the jive because its bouncy and the waltz because it has graceful bits (trying watching Strictly Come Dancing or Dancing with the Stars - they usually explain bits of the dance - watch 6pm on BBC if you're on the right week watch the rehearsal clips).

I'm pretty sure you are referring to Tango. To a promenade position in Tango, to be more precise. If dancing looks like marching it is bad dancing, just to note. The song is hard to recognise, but I think it may be La Cumparasita. If it is from the movie True Lies then the soundtrsck was done specifically for this movie I think.

It's a tango. Don't know what it's called unfortunately, but I've danced to it lots of times. I can understand why you are confused though. Foxtrot goes slow slow quick quick slow. The tango does that too sometimes, but not always.

It "sounds" like tango, it looks like tango, an Argentinian dance. It is very sensuous and you can enjoy it in the movie "Scent of a Woman" where Al Pacino, as a blind retired colonel, dances with beautiful Gabrielle Anwar and leaves her breathless, together with the viewers.

The rest of you are right - the dance is a tango, to the tune of La Cumparsita

I'm not sure about the song, but the dancing which accompanies it is the Tango. You had them confused because they come from the phonetic alphabet. Hope this helps :D

Let me guess... Al Pacino and Gabrielle Anwar in "Scent of a Woman"? One of my favourite films and one of my favourite scenes. If that's what you mean, it's tango.
The song is called "Por Una Cabeza". You can find it in the soundtrack.
