solve please:
Jennifer is going to build a sandbox for her little brother Mickey. The dimensions are 9 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 3 feet high. They want to fill 2/3 of the box with sand. If sand is sold by the cubic yard, how many cubic yards of sand will they need?
( 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet.)
please answer and explain in words HOW you solved it.

hey for this question:

you have the height , width , length . So you can find the area of the cube which is A=length x width x height

so A = 3*6*9
A=162 cubic feet.

now if one cubic yard is 27 cubic feet then 162/27 , will be 6 cubic yards for 162 cubic feet. but since 2/3 of the area would be consumed you will say 6*(2/3) = 4 cubic yards
so the answer is 4 cubic yards

All you need to do is find the volume of the box and then multiply that result by 2/3 to find the volume to actually be filled with sand.

Volume is essentially an area multiplied by some depth or height. So, all we have to do is find the area of the sandbox and then multiply that by its height.

1. Its area is 9 ft x 6 ft = 54 square feet. (We multiplied the length times the width.)

2. Its volume is 54 ft^2 x 3 ft = 162 cubic feet. (We multiplied the area times the height.)

Now, we want to fill only 2/3 of the volume of the sandbox with sand, so we need to multiply the result in step 2 by 2/3.

3. (2/3)x(162) = [(2)x(162)]/3 = 324/3 = 108 cubic feet. (We multiplied the volume in cubic feet by 2/3 to find the volume we will fill with sand.)

4. Now we divide 108 by 27 to find out how many cubic yards of sand will be needed.

108/27 = (27x2x2)/27 = 4 cubic yards.

So, 4 cubic yards of sand will be needed.

well first find the volume of the sandbox. so take 9 times 6 times 3 =162. then since you want to fill it up 2/3 full, divide it by three and times by two. so then you have 108 cubic feet of sand. divide that by 27 to get cubic yards. 4 cubic yards.

If you take 9x6x3 to find the cubic area you get 162 cubic feet. now you multiply 162 * (2/3) to give you 108 cubic feet. When you divide 108/27 you get 4 cubic yards

2/3 divided by 27. By dividing 27 from the denominator(the bottom number) 3 you will get 9. Now multiply the 9 with the numerator(the upper number) 2 which will get you 18 and it's the possible answer.

If you also want to find the area of the box then the formula in order to find that is that you multiply length, width, and the height which are 9,6, and 3 it will get you 162 which is the area of the box.
