Do you have to wear a sanitary pad around the time you are expecting to go into labor because of the whole water breaking phenomenon? I've always been curious.

well tipically there is a lot of amniotic fluid so if it breaks and the baby is not blocking it you would have a big gush more then a sanitary pad could hold no matter what size it is. Other people like me have babies who shove their heads very far down and the fluid just leaks out slowley if that happens a pad might work if you change it often, whatever the case it is not something to be extreamley embarrased about if it happens in public people wont be grosed out they will be excited for you. so let it gush! lol

good luck!

It can be a big gush or a slow trickle that does not stop. Even though you may get a big gush it will continue for a while. Labor can happen anytime after that however just because your water breaks does not mean that labor comes easy. Sometimes your contractions are not even there yet and will need assistants. Sometimes that bag can break to early as well. In any case go straight to the ER because the risk of infection is high when the "bag" breaks

Not every womans water breaks when they go into labor. My doctor told me that when a womans water breaks it can be a big gush or a small trickle. It depends on the tear in the bag and the position of the baby's head. I never wore a pad, I just kept a towel under my sheets. But my water didn't break with my first daughter, I had to have my bag broke at the hospital. My second daughter was the same.

I had a big gush, and it keeps coming out for quite awhile. A sanitary pad won't hold it. It also depends on if your water fully breaks, or just leaks. In most cases your water has to be broken at the hospital. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Indeed, there can be "leakage" or a gush...or no water breaking at all. A sanitary pad won't protect against a "gush."

When my water broke, it felt like I just peed a little. Then it just felt like I was peeing. I tried wearing a pad on the way to the hospital to prevent the car seats from getting wet and it didnt work. It is too much liquid.

big gush, and it feels really neat. But no sanitary pad will catch that tidal wave

not everyone is the same, but for the most part i would say its a gush, for some it does start off a little at a time.

The Dr's had to break mine every time but I do remember it was really warm and the best feeling of just peeing yourself but it was OK to do so. Unfortunately the rest of labor hurts.
