Until recently, CRT monitors were better if you were going to be playing games or doing things that required a fast refresh on the screen. LCD's were known for slow refresh, sometimes as slow as 20ms. Now adays, most of the better LCD monitors have a respectable 8ms refresh, some even faster. I would buy an LCD now, before even considering a CRT.

The LCD monitor does save a lot on power costs but the initial purchase price can be prohibitive. Do review your operating costs and find out if your business can cope with this expense. CRT's are "repairable" from a maintenance point of view, less costly to repair. As in all equipment, there will be repair costs. Find out if you have access to service people who are very knowledgeable about LCD monitor maintenance. This is a new technology relative to CRT's, you may have to pay a premium on labor.
Here are some equations for the entreprenur:
Purchase cost + Maintenance Cost = ____? [Over a period of 1 year]
Compare to:
Savings on Electricity = ____ ?
Compute for:
Your ROI (Return on Investment) = X% over 1 year.
For other businesses, turnaround time is longer but in IT, due to planned obsolescence, your equipment are "old" models too soon. Plus, your usage spells faster depreciation.

Hi there;
LCD monitor!
It takes less energy to run an LCD monitor AND there is less chance of screen burn though it can happen.
They run cooler last longer and are lighter than CRT.
Yes, you will pay more for them but that's the way the market goes.
