I think that if your husband's fourth cousin, and he was sleeping openly with his secretary or personal assistant, you could infer there was problems in paradise. And to emerge your own (Strong) woman in the interim probably lead to the inference.
There was never any real proof, and I like think of her as a her own woman instead.

She did have a female secretary that she was close to, but I doubt that meant she was a lesbian. I think the rumor started because she took over a lot of the public duties her president husband normally would have done. Also, she was a strong woman assuming a role women just didn't do at that time.

I think is just a rumor because back then being a lesbian was a capital sin and people kept it in secret big time, any woman found in this activities were stoned on the streets, I don't believe everything I hear..☺

That is the rumour. I watched a document a few months ago in Australia that gave no heed to these rumours though.

I think she did have many close friends but who wouldn't being the president's wife. She was a fiercely independent woman -- some say she helped make all the decisions - does that make her a lesbian thou.

i used to live in hyde park and heard the rumor,but who can tell/she's long dead.its easy to interpret things any way u like when no one is there to agree or disagree with u.the orientations of historical figures can only be conjecture,not fact-unless there are diaries/letters/photos proving otherwise.
