There are some facts contained in the story, but mostly it is a work of fiction. It even says that if you look at the front of the book. The cover says, A NOVEL, which means it is fictitious. When we watched the movie, my husband (who is a Lutheran pastor), couldn't believe all the errors made in the telling of "history". He also has a degree in European history so he knows what he is talking about.

no...even the author said it was fiction.....one thing though the book was good, very well written and fast paced but the movie was awful...read the book. and for those of you whose 'faith' was tested by reading the book or watching the movie...you didn't have it in the first place or it was very, very weak.
