Only your body knows for sure...There's no way of knowing. My friend dilated all the way and baby was born within 4 hours... I dilated to 3 and stayed that way for 2 more weeks, and I was in labor for 3 days.
Every one is different, every labor is different.
Just go to the doc when you are having contractions every 5 minutes and the pain is intense.
Happy pushing!

You dont say how many weeks, you are, but being dilated really doesnt mean much. I was 2 cm dilated with my first for a month and I was 4cm dilated with my 3rd son for a couple of weeks. It could be now or it could be a while longer. I can say about the cramping either. Just go to the hospital if your cramping gets worse...

some times you can be dilated for a long time before you actually go into labour, i was 4 centimetres for a couple of days before i was induced with my first. he was 2 weeks over due.
how far along are you?
since u are having cramps u might want to ring the hospital.
contractions are painful and come frequently as as they get stronger they will become more frequent.
i used to have lots of cramps in both pregnancies and alot of the time it was braxton hicks.
i would just call the hospital if u are due to have your baby soon or if the cramps get worse

tough question to answer you could jump from 1 to 10 in a heartbeat or you could wait sometime before labor actually occurs. If I where you I would try to rest as much as possible save your energy for the birth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Good Luck and Best Wishes.

You need a ten centimeter dialation. Walk...It could come quickly if your water breaks...You are just starting labor...They usually do not admit until 4-5 cm. If you are concerned you could get checked in the ER....ob/gyne office during the day...Relax...
