Have you ever tried walking about with a book on your head? I used to do that when I was little. Plus I always wanted to be taller and also I wanted to make it look like I was thinner so I got into the habbit of standing up straight. ...does that help any?

YES. First of all realize how ugly it is to slump, and how sexy it is to carry yourself with confidence and grace. This will motivate you. Second, work out and develop a body you're proud of. I started doing strength training with weights and in a few weeks I had developed strong shapely arms and shoulders which I was proud of (and a stronger back, necessary for good posture!). When I walked into a room, I pulled my shoulders back to the point where it was even a bit uncomfortable, and made my entrance. It felt geat, and I found myself standing up straight more and more of the time. People have complimented me on it.

Well, I guess you could say I'm taller than normal.....I've been 5'10" since 7th grade, lol.
One day I was walking to the car and my mother told me I needed to stand up straighter..she said I was slouching. Then, come to think of it, I realized I slouched because I tried to make myself look shorter. So, from that point on I just tried to pay attention to how I walked and carried myself. If I noticed I was slumped over I would straighten my back.....as long as you keep your back straight that natural grace will come to you.
Good luck!

i am 5' 9" and so far in my life having shorter friends and being tall has not, to my knowledge, affected my posture. but good posture is a very good thing and a good way to improve it is to site upright with your back touching the back of your chair and then to try standing as straight as you can, good posture can do the body wonders!

Knowing why you are slumping is a good thing, because when you notice youself doing it you can stop.
A good way to have better posture is to walk around as though there is a piece of string pulling the top of your head upwards. Keep pushing the top of your head towards the sky.

At 5'10", I've always been a lot taller than my girlfriends (and some boyfriends) so I know how it feels to try to make yourself shrink! I've found that practicing yoga makes me stand up straighter - the poses require proper spinal alignment, so it gets me standing up tall and usually lasts for a day or so after class. (then if i don't go back, i'll start slumping again...old habits die hard)

well tall girls like us are usually trying to get shorter so that they slouch. to get better posture sit strait, walk with your head held high, and dont stick your neck out when you type. be confident & you will automatically be taller.

i am 5'9 and i used to slouch awful but i was trying to hide because i did not like being tall . i think the only thing that helped me was catching myself and telling myself and also when my family & friends saw me slouching they would tell me and that helped remind me to stand up straight .
good luck
