I want to know what percentage of our brain do we really use. I once read from an unreliable source that we use only 5% of oru brains and even Einstein only used 12% of his brain. Is this true? your opinions please. And I would really appreciate if you also gave me the sources from where you got your info.

23 answers and 3 or 4 right?!?! I can not believe this section!! We use all of our brain and we always have. A brain is an expensive instrument. It would make no evolutionary sense not to maximize potential in this, a vital organ! This is a terrible answer run, even by social science standards, We, in the biology section, would of had a short field day with this ill-posed question. Which, is why I come to this section; to receive my daily requirement of belly laughs.

We use 100% of our brain.

The idea that we only use a small percentage of our brain is a myth.

The popular media and some very influential thinkers have contributed to this misconception. Statements that humans only use a small portion of their brains have been attributed to physicist Albert Einstein and anthropologist Margaret Mead. And the advertising industry is guilty of using the idea to sell their products.

Regardless of its origin, experts in the field of neurology seem quite certain that although certain pathways in the brain may be working at different activity levels, all parts of the brain are always being used—even during sleep.

The theory that humans beings use only 10% of their brains has long since been refuted as unture by many reputable scientists. Basically, it ain't 10%. I don't know how much though.

I heard that we don't know what are the functions of most of our brain. I heard we only use 10%. I just saw this one guy (shrapnel in head in Iraq) on the local news who had 1/3 of his brain removed. Even though he has speech problem and some memories loss, he can still walk and use all his limps and communicate and seems to live normally.

no one can tell that how much % we use our brains.
see while using our brain we dont know how much we r using it then how can other people even get its idea.
it depend upon us.
actually we r not keen observants, determined n we r not concentrated at 24*7 rate , if we keep our minds alert all time we can utilize most of our brains but very few people have this technique in themselves n ofcourse we can develope it by concentrating more or being more determined.........thats it...........
u can experiment it all u have to do is just be concentrated all the time n just see what a change u ll observe in urself.....

Hah hah, this question suddenly made me remember a Bill Nye the Science Guy episode from my sixth grade science class. If I remember correctly, Nye went on a rant about how we use ALL of our brain, not just ten or fifteen percent.

Mapping is very difficult in humans. However new study suggests that altogether 15 cognitive centers are set and depending on the environment in which an individual is placed they get activated turn by turn. An average it is expected to a tune of 7 percent...but never sure ... how and where ...and to what extent!
