I had real contractions for 3-4 weeks prior to going into real active labor. Even went to the hospital once, and was sent home.... so here's when I really knew when it was time to go- my water broke- only a trickle- thought it was pee at first, so it took me a while to realize there was another trickle that it wasn't pee. Then about a half hour after that happened, REALLY hard contractions started- to the point where I bent over our couch, it was so painful... it was hard to breathe, talk, walk or do anything through it- this is when my birthing instructor told us we'd know it was time to get to the hospital. so please- listen to that, because it's the honest truth! Now of course, if your water does break, you do need to go because you could be at risk for infection.
I was supposed to be induced at 41 weeks at 9:30am, well, this is a funny story- my husband and I were laying in bed talking about how in the morning I'd be induced... I asked him what they'd do if they'd break my water or what... my husband is silly, and he was like, "they will just go BAM!" (with his fist punching in the air)... I giggled, and yep, that's when the trickle came- my water broke then! lol It was only like 1:30am. So by like 2:30 we left for the hospital because of those strong contractions. I didn't have my son until 8:03pm... my son just wasn't descending down, and was nose up instead of nose down, making it more difficult... my epidural wore off the last 4 hrs, so I was in extreme pain, and they finally took me c-section - had to be put under. It was really really painful for me. But I had a super healthy baby- a blessing... 9lbs 10oz!!!! A big shock to us and the doctors! Healthy though :) Goodluck, and you'll know when it's that time!

I felt the same way you do right now. I am one of those people that HAS to know what is going to happen, and how do I know what to do and when. . .
So believe me when I tell you YOU WILL KNOW.
I knew when my water broke. It isn't like what they show in the movies or on TV, but you know when that water has broken. It was about a week after I lost my mucus plug. I didn't have the hard contractions, and I didn't feel like I was going to have the baby right then and there. I had been in the hospital the night before with "false labor", and they kept me because I was so wound up I was having hard contractions. After leaving the next morning around 10 am, my husband and I went shopping, on the way stopping three times so I could throw up. I didn't know what was wrong - I thought I had gotten the flu. We stopped at the grocery store on the way home to get me some soup and 7UP so I could eat/drink something, and while checking out, my water broke. It was a gush that is rather unmistakeable.
I did nothing to bring on labor, and I don't know of anything that will, other than time. Be patient, and good luck!

I had my son at 38 weeks. I was watching a scary movie and eating KFC when my water broke. So I really didn't do anything. This was almost 6 months ago. But also I was walking everyday in the heat. I was only dialated to a 2 the day before and 65% effaced so my dr. thought it would be 2 more weeks until I was due but he was wrong.. I was told not to do anything to bring on my labor. The baby will come when he or she is ready. I know you feel like it is going to take forever but it will come and go so fast. Enjoy your last couple of weeks or days.. Go to the hospital whenever you feel like you have to or just call your dr. that is what he is for and he will let you know if you should go.. But good luck and congrats... Don't be nervous I was very but when I was having my son it left then it was excitement..

Well my baby is almost 4 years old. She came right on my due date. I woke up it was a friday morning, didn't get up until almost 11. I started having contractions the night before around 10+ minutes apart, when I woke up they were 5 minutes apart. I called the doctors office and they said to come on in. I got there then they said it's time to go to the hospital. Got in my room around 1 pm and my girl came into the world at 8:38 pm. They say to stimulate the nipples to help bring on labor lol so I did that whenever I took my bath. Your doctor probably told you to call when the contractions are 4-5 minutes apart, so do just that ok and you'll be fine. Congrats and best of luck.

with my first daughter I was full term 40 weeks, she was actually born on her due date. I woke up at 2 am, not feeling right. My stomach kept getting hard and I was having bloody discharge, so I went to the hospital and I was in labor. Ten hours later she was born! My second baby was completely different. I was 36 weeks pregnant and had to be induced because of low fluid. Went to the hospital and after twenty hours she was born! Trust me honey, you'll know when you are in labor. Your body knows what to do, just go with the flow and enjoy your last days of quiet! ^.~ Have fun being a mom. If in doubt the hospital doesn't mind if you stop by just to get checked if you think you are in labor. My hospital told me better safe then sorry, they are used to having first time mothers come in several times before they go into labor. Haha.

My daughter was born 27th of August 2006. I was due on the 28th of August. I had contactions in my stomach every five minutes. I had a little mucus and blood on my underwear when I went to the toilet. I went to the hospital when the pains got quite bad. I was 5cm. My labour lasted 6 hours. I didn't have any pain relief.
Don't worry sweetheart, you'll know when it's time. Congratultions, this is such an exciting time.

My son was born on May 31st 2006. I was 38 weeks prego, they induced so I have no idea what it feels like to naturally go into labor. The only recommendation I have is that if you planning on getting an epidural wait as long as you possibly can. I had to get mine before I was in any real pain because the lady that does the epidural had surgerys to go to and wouldnt be back for like six hours so I went ahead and did it and it hurt so bad I cant even describe. Most people say it doesnt hurt but thats because they are in so much pain when they get it done. To top it off mine didnt work and I was in natural labor for twenty four hours and four minutes. If you are planning on getting medicine make sure you prepare yourself for the possiblity that it may not work! Not trying to scare you! Its all worth it in the end! Good luck!!

I know everyone has said this but you really will know. I was so nervous with my fist that I wouldn't know but at about 4am I woke up with slight contractions, and a little bit of bloody show. By 5am my contractions were stronger and I knew it was time to go, my water never broke but the contractions were about five minutes apart and I was 40 weeks. With my second she came at 38 weeks and it went about the same way, and my water never broke with her either. Just remember if you have more than 4 contraction and you can't wake while having them you should go to the hospital. congrats to you and your little bundle of joy.

My baby was 38 weeks when I went into labor. I woke up and realized my water had broken. Trust me, you'll know when you're in labor! I was nervous about the same thing, but the contractions of labor are painful unlike Braxton Hicks.
